In the late 1990s, an amazing phenomenon appeared that delighted not only children but also adults — Furby. These furry creatures with big eyes and curiosity captured the hearts of millions around the world. Among the various Furby variations, a particularly bright and stylish version stands out — “Funky Furby.” In essence, it is a special edition of the 2005 Emoto-Tronic Furby.
Unlike their 2005 counterparts, each Funky Furby is adorned with a multicolored tail. Despite their unique charm, Funky Furbies faced insufficient demand in Furby’s homeland, the USA, and were only released in Canada, Spain, Australia, and the UK. Some English versions of Funky Furby were sold together with a Furby Baby in a box labeled “Exclusive Double Pack.” Sales of this unique Furby version lasted only about three months in 2006, after which they were discontinued, coinciding with the end of production of the 2005 Furby.
Funky Furbies were available in three color combinations: purple with two shades of green, light pink and yellow, and a mix of two shades of blue with purple and pink. Blue Funky Furbies were available only in Spanish, light pink ones only in English, but dark purple ones were available in both languages.

It’s important to note that, unlike the 2005 Furby, Funky Furbies lack several features. They cannot play “Red Light, Green Light” or tell stories. Although Funky Furbies sometimes ask: “Where’s Furby Baby?” like the 2005 Furby, they do not interact with the 2005 Furby or 2005 Furby Baby, and do not have a “Try Me” position on the switch.
Interestingly, Funky Furby has its own story in the advertising world. For a long time, the original commercial was considered lost — only footage edited into a parody with the song “Du Hast” was available online. However, the original commercial was later found. The ad shows two girls playing with purple and green Funky Furbies. At the end of the video, the green and purple Funky Furbies sing together with a blue Funky Furby speaking in English.
Despite their short existence and limited release, Funky Furbies left their mark in the hearts of collectors and fans. These unique toys became not only part of Furby history but also a nostalgic reminder of fun and creative times when interactive toys entered our lives with bright fun and amazement.
