In 2005, Tiger Electronics and Hasbro introduced a new version of the popular interactive toy to the world — the Emoto-Tronic Furby. This generation of Furby marked a significant step in the development of interactive toy technology, offering a range of unique features and capabilities.
Emoto-Tronic Furbys were significantly larger than their predecessors, with increased dimensions, a rubber beak, plastic feet, large ears, and more detailed eyes. A distinctive feature was the absence of a tail, with the exception of the Funky Furby model.
Features and Capabilities
- Sensors — the toy was equipped with belly and back sensors, similar to the 1998 model, but without infrared and light sensors.
- Communication — Furbys could communicate with each other by activating the belly sensors.
- Voice recognition — improved speech recognition and response function.
- Interactive commands — Furby responded to various commands: singing, telling jokes, dancing (for Funky Furby), stories, games, and expressions of love.
Despite its innovative features, Emoto-Tronic Furby sales suffered due to limited voice recognition capabilities and competition with other toy lines such as FurReal Friends.
The Emoto-Tronic Furby commercial begins with an animated intro that was likely taken from the Furby Island cartoon.
Emoto-Tronic Furbys appeared in various media, including the 2007 film “Transformers.” Nevertheless, compared to other Furby generations, merchandising was less extensive.
The 2005 Emoto-Tronic Furby holds an important place in the evolution of interactive toys. It became a symbol of technological progress in children’s toys, despite some market and technical challenges. These toys remain popular among collectors and Furby enthusiasts worldwide.
