Interactive Gizmo, also known as Furby-Gremlins, is a special interactive toy created in 1999. It was produced in a quantity of 250,000 units and represents a model of Mogwai, a character from the movie “Gremlins.” This project was made possible through the collaboration of Hasbro, Tiger Electronics, and Warner Bros.

Description

Interactive Gizmo is a friendly companion for the Furby toy. It features Gizmo’s original voice and possesses a wide range of interactive capabilities. In particular, it is fully animated and has a vocabulary of 160 words. Interactive Gizmo can communicate with Furby and Furby Babies, as well as play games and learn tricks.

Appearance

Interactive Gizmo has a distinctive appearance that differs from regular Furbies. Unlike Furby, it has limbs, a mouth instead of a beak, a brown nose above the mouth, and special eyes. It also lacks a tail or mane. Gizmo has a white patch of fur around the left eye, a white stripe on the head, and white fur on the wrists. Its fur is brown, as are the ears and hands. The inner ears, feet, eyelids, and hands of Gizmo are pink. The face plate, feet, and belly are white. It has four fingers on each hand and four toes on each foot.

Interesting Facts about Gizmo

  • Only 250,000 units of Interactive Gizmo were produced.
  • There are similarities between the Interactive Gizmo and the Furby fake, Baby Brainy, and they were both released in 1999. These facts may indicate that Baby Brainy could have been an unofficial copy of Gizmo.
  • Gizmo’s voice was provided by actor Howie Mandel, who also voiced Gizmo in the movie.
  • Unlike Furby, Gizmo speaks its own language called “Gizmo,” but can also use some English words.
  • In Chinese culture, the word “Mogwai” means “devil.”
  • In the movie “Gremlins,” Mogwai are cute alien creatures that have certain “rules” for their care. You cannot expose them to sunlight, get them wet, or feed them after midnight. Breaking these rules can cause a Mogwai to transform into a scary and destructive Gremlin.
